My favorite W word:

whimsical |ˈ(h)wimzikəl|adjectiveplayfully quaint or fanciful, esp. in an appealing and amusing way whimsical sense of humor.acting or behaving in a capricious manner the whimsical arbitrariness of autocracy.     ^Yep, pretty much me in a nutshell; Mikey will attest to the capricious part in #2.
Outfit deets: Lace top: Free People; Cardigan, Oxford pumps: ModCloth; Skirt: Urban Outfitters; Tights: H&M; Bag: Etsy; Sunnies: some going-out-of-business store in the mall
I like to classify my style as very whimsical, and I'm pretty jazzed that during the last few years I've been able to come across pieces that totally mirror my personality and interests. Style and what we dress ourselves in might not mean much to some people, but it's very important to me. A couple of times I found myself wondering if that made me even the slightest bit shallow. Then one night, while reading a magazine (I don't remember which mag it was), I ran across a quote that I needed to read regarding my little state of puzzlement. I absolutely agree and adore it.
"Fashion and the way we look are a part of our human condition. It's tribal and social and personal. I don't think it's superficial; it's quite profound." -- Helen Mirren

And I just want to note that Helen Mirren is one gorgeous, classy woman and WOW, look at her body --she's in her mid-60's!
So I'm going to state the obvious by saying that there is nothing wrong with a woman, or man, wanting to look their best in general. We have to live in these bodies for however long, it's only normal that we'd want to look and feel good while doing so, but of course there is that fine line that separates what I've just said, from those dreadful 'shallow' waters. I could easily take this matter and ride it out a lot further and longer, especially with the part about how Mrs. Mirren says our appearances are "personal", but I'll stop now. This post is coming way later than intended; I sat down and started writing it early this evening, and it's now 2:35 am. *No, it didn't take me hours and hours to write this, I just took a nap in between.*
All in all, Friday was beautiful. I woke up to a surprisingly sunny day and it inspired me to wear the most obviously suitable color: yellow. :) After school Mikey and I headed to Montclair for some eats. We tried a new place, Sandwich Theory, where I had the "avocado dream" and it was seriously the best sandwich I've ever had: grilled veggies, fresh avocado, tomatoes, provolone cheese and pesto on multi-grain bread - YUM! Mikey's was also delish; he had a sandwich with turkey, brie cheese, apples and honey mustard. We will definitely be going back.
Oh, I also want to mention that our friend Isaac installed a cable wire in our bedroom this afternoon -- we haven't had television in the bedroom since 2009. I crawled right under 3 layers of blankets (it was super cold out by this time), munched on about 20 bite-size pieces of Twix candies, and flipped through the channels. I was so surprised when I found a "BBC Presents" program! I watched "As Time Goes By", "Keeping Up Appearances" and "Are You Being Served", in this order. This is the exact order they played on PBS every Sunday night in the early 90's, and my family and I never missed a show. Watching these British sitcoms/comedies so cozy in my bed, remembering doing it every weekend when I was a kid, was just the perfect way to spend my Friday night.
Before I go...tonight I got to talk to my girlfriend Paige on the phone, who is up to her ears in stress. Paige, if you're reading this, then just know I'm sending happy/everything-will-be-alright vibes all the way to Tennessee. Also, always remember: "This too shall pass"

Goodnight everyone!

*hugs*

  1. If THIS is what "manic mondays" look like I'm thinking I need my life to get a little more maniacal ASAP. I die for that outfit. =o)

  2. Hahahaha Khalilah! Thanks! Although I think my "Manic Monday" post appears to trail into this one with this outfit, but this is my "My favorite W word" post. Nothing manic on this particular day! :) Just feelin' mellow yellow.
