Colorado Cafe...

Sucks.
I'm a Texas gal, and at heart, country music is my ish. I don't necessarily know how to line dance or two step (I like to do my own thing on the floor), but I still have so much fun cutting a rug in country clubs. Therefore, I was really looking forward to visiting one of the only country clubs in Jersey this past weekend. Oh, what a let down. Not only is Colorado Cafe nowhere near as humungous as my Gilley's-esque honky tonk, Cowboys Dancehall, in San Antonio, but you're not even allowed on the dance floor if you're not a profesh line/two-step dancer! I watched a girl get tapped on the shoulder and asked to get off the floor (she was also doing her own thing) and it was her bachelorette party! What a crock. As we were leaving I sarcastically asked the dude at the front door if they had a "freestyle" night where anyone could dance and he said, "Yeah, Fridays, but that's not a country night." I just rolled my eyes. We basically paid $10 a person to watch other people dance. Sure we got to hang out with a couple friends, but I had my heart set on dancing for the entire week leading up to this. A good portion of the night I stood on the sidelines, with the other shunned freestylers, miserably sipping beer after beer, wishing I too could spend hours taking line dancing lessons every week and show off in front of poor noobs like me... Colorado Cafe, "you ain't sh*t".
Now that I got my rant out the way, here's what I wore that night. I realized I looked too much like Pebbles from The Flintstones so later in the night I pulled out my bobby-bow pin and used it as part of the collar. Also, the good Lord didn't bless me with "the girls" to fill out the top of this dress so...yeah. Then again, they wouldn't have fit anyway. After 3, maybe 4, beers I was about to pop.
First, Mikey snapped some shots of me in a true bloggers dilemma: finding a bag to match my outfit. Or in my case, picking one that didn't really match, but in true Roni-form, "it matches if you say it does".

Happy Monday, friends! I hope it was a great start to your week! And thanks for reading through one of my few venting sessions. I'm entitled to a few, right? :)

Love,
Roni

  1. I love how your hair looks in the photos, I always try to put my hair in a bun but I can never do it!

I'm sorry to hear about your experience in Colorado Cafe. I've never been somewhere where people who want to do their own thing on the dancefloor can't, it seems a bit of a shame especially when you are paying money! xo

    1. Thanks, Sarah. I actually didn't want to wear my hair like this *again* that day, but I get so lazy doing it that a bun is just too easy. I'm sure yours would look just fine. :)
Yeah, we definitely won't be going back and I hope they see this post. Country clubs aren't supposed to be like that. I've been to so many in all the places I've lived and never have people been shunned from the dance floor if they were "distracting" the other dancers. Oh, well!

    1. Haha, yeah I googled pictures of Pebbles and was like, "Oh no! I'm not intentionally going for that look!" LOL But not that there would have been anything wrong with it - like you said, Pebbles is cute!
And you're right again, my living room is always available as a makeshift club. Actually, we turn our kitchen into a dance hall very often now that I think of it. haha :)
      Have a wonderful week, doll!

    1. I knew you'd be heated, sissy! haha That place was no Cowboys. Hell, it wasn't even either of the Stoney's locations in Vegas. But whatevs. We're totally gonna make up for it when I come home! I'm SO excited! You, Gilby, Niki, Jack, erry'body better be ready to get crunk n' drunk with me at Cowboys.
And thank you, sissy. I love you!

  4. what a joke! I cant believe they dont allow free styling. That is really lame. I mean hello, you were probably the only Southerner there and we kinda invented country music and country dancing so really you should have been crowned president of Colorado Cafe.

    1. Haha! I should have been crowned. Wtf. I remember thinking that night that I had to tell you that nonsense, and I even went to text you but realized I didn't have your number. Derp! There have been so many times where I was like, "Oh, I gotta tell Amber this" or something. So, message me your digits, lady.

  6. How rude! That is such a bummer. Why would you want to go watch people dance at a bar? We have a fun country bar where I live and they let everyone out on the floor. The last time I was there though it was super dead and one girl was line dancing...alone! She was groovin to the tunes though :]

Haha. The pebbles look is cute and your closet is wonderful. It must be really difficult choosing things with all your lovely stuff.

    1. I know!! I don't understand how they are still getting away with this stupid rule of "dance floor etiquette". I read the rules over on their site and they're just ridiculous and unfair. I'm gonna write them a letter...or email. :) And I remember there was always a lonely wolf dancer at the country club we frequented in Vegas. It was hilarious, but hey, more power to them. I know I wouldn't be out there alone...well, unless I was totally boozey.
      Thanks, Allison. :)

  7. I think you look absolutely darling! I would have never seen the Pebbles situation had you not noted. But I must say that I always thought Pebbles was by far the cutest character in that show! =D That is a real bummer about the club! They need to put up a sign or something... but they won't, because people won't come! Tisk, tisk...

    1. Why, thank you, Jessa :) You're so incredibly sweet. And it's funny because apparently a lot of other people didn't see the Pebbles thing at first, but I did so I had to call myself out. haha
And the club does have a sign...on their website in tiny little link that I obviously didn't see beforehand. Never going back there again. Nuh-uh. :)

    1. 50's era is my favorite, so thank you much, Francesca! And yeah, I forgot I had that old bag. My mommy gave it to me years and years ago. I'm glad I finally got to wear it. It's super cute!

  9. Nice closet!
Dude, seriously, I would write a letter to those people. Or tell them that everyone that I know will NEVER go to that bar, that is some serious bullshit. It shouldn't be open to the public if regular non-professional people aren't allowed on the floor. Ridiculous!

I like your dress, but....not the top bun! hahaha (Sorry, had to laugh about it. hehehe)

Andddd.....you're coming home in June and didn't tell me?!? Grr.

    1. Thanks, girl and yeah I'm definitely writing a letter. While we were there we heard people mentioning some stupid "dance floor etiquette" link they have on their website. It was so tiny I had to put my glasses on just to find it. Basically it's horseshit. You should read it from my link up there. It's in the bottom right if you do.
And I lol'd at your comment on my bun. I love ya! :))
Omg, I can't believe I forgot to tell you. I guess because when we bought them last week it was in a rush to do it before prices went up. Then I just called my family to let them know and that was it. Girl, I'm gonna be in town for almost 3 weeks so YOU AND I will totally get together! I mean, that's the plan. Meet in Austin? Drinks on 6th Street? Yessss! But yeah, don't feel bad, I haven't told anyone. It obviously wasn't a secret, I just completely forgot after telling my family.

  11. girl, I really like your style! it's such a perfect mixture of girly and edgy, and your tattoos.. I love those as well since I also am a girl who likes and obviously has several of those (and hands are my favourite place for them). and you wrote so well about the opinion of others when it comes to tattoos (and girls), especially when you live in a small town like I do. anyway, I think I have too much to say :D actually I wanted to say I love your dress and the pink belt as well.

    1. Maiken,
Thank you for your extremely thoughtful and lovely comment. I appreciate it very much. And don't worry, I am often long winded in my comments and go on different tangents when I initially intended on writing one thing. hehe :)
