Playing with my money is like playing with my emotions

Romper: Ruche// Cardigan: Red Dress Shoppe// Brogues: Endless// School bag: ModCloth// Hair bow used as bow tie c/o Coral Clover (one of my sweet Instagram pals!)
So check this out. Other than bartending every now and again on weekends, going to school is my full time job and my/our source of income. Mikey and I, having served in the military, are granted free education through what's called the GI Bill. Not only is our tuition absolutely covered, but we each get a separate paycheck just for going to school, therefore, we don't get paid when we aren't enrolled, e.g. during summer. So it is a job. A pretty sweet deal, yes, but it came with its cost and I feel veterans are more than deserving of this privilege. But I digress. It's nearing October and where we usually get paid precisely on the last day of the month, we have yet to see our August checks. We're also still waiting on our book stipends, a separate check that covers the cost of books each semester. The VA (Veterans Affairs office) is backed up by like, A LOT, on sending out paychecks to all of us vets. Basically we've been big time homebodies eating a ton of sandwiches, egg concoctions, and Ramens...which is typical college life anyway I suppose. But we're not used to this so it sucks (plus I haven't shopped in an eternity!). Dear VA head honchos: You don't want me to go all Big Worm on you, because playing with my money is like playing with my emotions. And I don't like it. So please send us our dinero. Now.
And friends, please send good vibes our way so that Mikey can get one of these jobs he's applied to since graduating college this summer! (He's only enrolled in school again this semester so that he can help bring in money until he gets a call from a potential job opportunity.) Thanks in advance.
I hope your weeks are going well! :)

  1. Ah! Our situations sounds too similar! I know exactly how you feel, love! My husband is a vet too, and the GI Bill is pretty much our only source of income. We haven't gotten anything either. I have been a stress ball for a while now because of this. I also recently graduated and am looking for a job. Seems impossible these days. I feel like I'm hunting for a golden ticket instead of a job! Anyway, lets hope the VA stops playing with our emotions! and I send all the good vibes in the world your way! Hang in there! You are not alone!

Also, you are the most adorable lady! I absolutely adore your style!

Hope you have a splendid rest of the week! <3

    1. I know I told you this already, but I'm happy to know that we're not alone in our crappy situations, ONLY because you can relate to exactly what I'm talking about. I pray that these sucky financial ruts get better for all of us in them! And I didn't realize that so many of us are. Let's unite! haha
I'm definitely sending the good vibes y'alls way, too! I hope you get lucky with a good job. :) Thank you for the nice-to-read comment, Marlyn ♥

    1. I will totally send the thoughts your way, Rachel! What a drag that can be to chase people down. I'm just glad we've had enough money in our account to pay our bills. That's such a weight off the shoulders. I just miss have extra spending money!...for shopping! haha
I'm majoring in Creative Writing, love! I've been keeping a journal since I was a baby! Well, not a baby but since I could spell, I've been writing. I used to write books as a kid - they were hilariously juvenile. And I wrote a ton of poetry in my teen years. These days, I just enjoy keeping my personal diary, so I figured it would be a suitable major since my college didn't have a fashion program. Anywho, the vlog, aye....um, I'm really slacking on that! haha I'll get to it though. :)
Thanks for the comment, doll! xo

  6. Paid to go to college is amazing! There is a similar thing here in the UK (and they got paid to go to balls and banquets too) and I can't deny that I'm a wee bit jealous when I'm in tons of debt -on the other hand risking your life and so forth, I know! Kind of earned it! I hope the money comes through to you guys soon & Mikey gets the job.

Also, I absolutely love your shoes. I'm such a sucker for brogues. :)

    1. Balls and banquets sounds super fun!! I don't think we get that. haha I wish though. But yes, all the time and your life that gets put on hold for the military, I think it's more than justified to give vets free schooling.
Thank you for the well wishes, doll! I am hoping the checks come in soon so we can have some play money. Thankfully we've gotten all our bills paid, but it won't last too long if they wait another month to pay us. Eep! *crossing my fingers*
      Have a great week! :)

  9. Girrl...I completely agree with you and Big Worm! "Playing with my money is like playing with my emotions!" I have similar issues with school. Us teachers pay for a lot of school/lab supplies out of pocket, a whole lot more than we can claim on our taxes. Somehow I feel it's wrong.....On top of that we are still waiting on our school supply check that usually comes in August before school even begins. Cute outfit as always. Sending good vibes your way for the new jobs and better dinner options ;)

Sounds like you are in a sucky situation yourself and I'm sorry :( I will be keeping you in my prayers and thoughts, sending you the get-paid-NOW vibes! That's so not fair that you can't claim them on taxes though, wow. I never knew that.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Trice. ♥

  12. Wow that's crazy (in a good way) that the military pays for you guys' school fees! How long do you have to serve to be entitled to that? Fingers crossed those pay cheques start rolling through again :)

  16. Totally unrelated, but I had a dream last night where we met up and we wanted to do a photoshoot together, but in these weird halloween costumes. And our husbands made fun of us. We drove out to this mall to take pictures. I woke up thoroughly confused.

    1. HAHAHA!! This made my day! I think it might have been due to that post I sent you? That could explain the halloween costumes hehe And the mall? Hmm...maybe it's because my "I miss shopping" woes were sent to you through the ether.
You should have woken up extremely depressed that that didn't happen in real life. It sounds like an awesome time! ;))

My checks came in, which helped to keep on paying these bills. Now just waiting on Mikey's. When those come in we'll be back to good-good. I seriously can't get enough of ramen. Even when we have moneys! Lol There's just so much damn sodium in them.
Thank you lovely lady for your sweet comments! xo

  21. Ummm, this outfit is waaaaaaaay too cute! I love everything about it! And I hope you get your moolah! I've heard bad stories about people not getting paid on time when they use their GI Bill. I have yet to use mine since I'm still in! And, you're right: veterans are more than deserving of this privilege! -Jessica L

    1. Thanks, Jessica! We've actually gotten my checks now, but my husband's are still MIA. Hopefully they'll come in for the first of November. Sheesh! But it is, in a weird way, comforting to know that there are still veterans that haven't been paid, so it's not just us. I hope we ALL get our money and the VA gets its shit together. I understand things fall through cracks or people get behind, but when it involves money...geez, it's that much harder to be patient and really understanding. I can't imagine how we'd be if we hadn't gotten at least half of our money by this point. Luckily all the bills are still getting paid. :)
