elephant in the room

The "Walk Like An Egyptian" pose...but not. No, not at all actually.
Top (came w/belt): Marshall's// Skirt: Ruche// Cardi: Target// Wedges: Cole Haan// Hair bow: American Apparel
Elephants + Houndstooth! I personally think it works.
"pop lock and drop it" pose
Who else here is uncomfortable when things that need to be addressed, aren't? I'm that person that can never just 'pretend' that things are fine. I won't ever ignore what's lurking. I won't refrain from addressing issues to avoid confrontation. Confrontation doesn't always have to be bad.  Sometimes it's necessary. Confrontation, in my experience, really just turns into a conversation that is however-long-overdue (two minutes or two years, it needs to be said), so I associate these two words rather closely together. Announcing the elephant provides clarity - this can obviously apply to a wide range of scenarios from personal relations to social gatherings to professional atmospheres. Although, for some reason, and I don't know why this is, some people are fine with going about their business and sweeping things under the rug. (I'm on a roll with idioms today.) I guess they don't like to shake things or don't wanna "go there." Let me, because I don't do well with nodding my head and smiling to things that don't sit right. That being said, I will only hold my tongue to a certain extent, e.g. timing and place. I have just always believed in being brutally honest, while displaying tact of course....Hmm, I'm gonna end this since I tend to ramble, but you get the idea. File this in your brain space as things to know about me. I'm Roni and I'm okay with confrontation. But elephants in the room? I'll point those suckers right out! :)
I'll be getting to the comments from my last post and reading all your blogs tonight since I don't have school till late tomorrow. The last two+ weeks have been insane in the membrane and I don't like feeling like a bad blog friend when I get behind on your lives. And just in case it's been a while since I told y'all, thanks for reading my little blog.  It means so much to me! My first blogaversary is actually coming up on the 23rd, eep!!

    1. I didn't think I let on that it was going to be "juicy", Sissy. I was just making general statements about the topic of elephants in the room. I just don't like 'em. That's that. I don't have any specific situations that I was letting on about, unfortunately. Next time I'll let you know if and when I have a "juicy" story to tell! :) I love you.
Oh, and LMAO @ "buck like a tooth" - now that's an old school us-phrase!!
IloveyouIloveyouIloveyou ♥ Thanks for making my head swell up.

I got the velvet bows at American Apparel a couple years back, but last I checked, they still had them online.

  3. I am totally with you on addressing elephants. Sometimes it freaks my friends out but if there is a problem between us I will always bring it up and deal with it. I believe in being honest or you know, sometimes just blunt, because I hate feeling like there's unsaid important stuff that once done will make everything better. So kudos to you!

    1. Glad I'm not the only one. It's definitely a touchy thing for most people. And luckily my true, close friends already know I don't put up with elephants or anything lingering on that might be causing friction between us. Even though they don't do well with calling the elephant out, they've told me they appreciate that I do it. I'm glad. :) It definitely has saved relationships and friendships, I think. Honesty has always been my numbero uno. But as my hubby has always said, I'm not just honest, I'm brutally honest. Hahah I just hope I never hurt anyone's feelings; that is almost never the case.
Thanks for the comment, doll :)

  4. So let me start with: I love this outfit!! From the cute little sweater, down to the shoes. Very cute! ...Now onto your discussion about confrontation...I will never just smile and nod or avoid things. My children know this personally and my wife is starting to learn very quickly. We have only been together a little over 2 years, so there's still lots to learn! It's not cool to just let things go that need attention, though as a mother I have learned that sometimes you have to pick your battles....especially with a pre-teen! But that's a mommy thing, family and work is a different subject, but I'm with you on always discussing things. Nothing is worse than an ongoing issue that has never been addressed...talk about resentment build up! Anyway, I love your blog and I'm excited for your Blogaversary!

    1. Thanks, Eeka! I'm sure things get a little different when kids are added to the mix - you can't be as blunt as you want allll the time, I'm sure. So I'll figure that out for myself one day and try and find out how I'll work with that, since being incredibly honest is in my nature. hehe I have gotten better with "picking my battles" though. I used to just go head first before. Even if it's killing me so bad because I want to address something, I'll wait till time has smoothed over the situation and my words have found themselves a bit more sensitive.

  6. I need to hear more about this elephant. Who tried to mess with you? I want their name and address. I'm not gonna beat them up, but I might teepee their house or prank call or send negative vibes their way cause that's what friends are for :) PS I am gonna start watching Arrested Development this weekend. I trust you when you say its funny :) plus the next time you wear that banana shirt I want to be in on the joke.

Not talking about you being my soul sister right now, but my actual real life sister said the same thing as you. haha I guess it could sound like I was letting on to something else but I honest to goodness was just babbling on how I feel about a topic that was brought on to me by my top! But I love you uber amounts for having my back! You should already know that this protective, crazy little Mexican has yours. ♥
Please please please tell me you've started watching Arrested Development!

HAPPY Be-lated BIRTHDAY!!!! I hope your week was marvelous and you got everything your precious, deserving heart wanted!
As far as your tattoo! WhaaA?? I had no idea you were about even thinking about having one. I'm excited for you now!! My first one was a mistake, hahaha the only tattoo out of all mine that I had to get covered up no matter how much it didn't suit me anymore. It was my ex's name and I was 18 when I got it. My mother wanted to kill me when she found out...two years later! haha I got it on my tummy so it was hidden all that time, plus I'd gone to the military already so she didn't see me anymore as often. But yeah...that's my silly story. I'll be on your blog soon to share this with you in case you don't see this comment on here. I hope you've got some ideas already; I wanna hear them!

  9. Ugh, I am SO bad with confrontation. I always wan't to address the elephant in the room but can never find the right time or place, or at least that's what I tell myself. Truth is I'm just down right scared of confronting others, and whenever I do confront someone it always goes down badly.. I say the wrong thing, make the elephant out to be even bigger than it really is to make it seem like more of a problem.. the list goes on! Maybe next time I need to confront someone I could get you to do it for me? :P Just kidding, haha.

    xx

    1. Felicity, you are such a sweet heart! I don't see how anyone could even require confrontation with you. :) But yes, I'll do it for you! haha
I've actually done that (make the elephant bigger), maybe a time or two but not anymore than that; I'm pretty damn good with observing/analyzing people and behaviors. So I don't tend to call things out unless I can positively identify them as an elephant in the first place.
I say anytime something is bothering you or making you uncomfy, either bring it up or just separate yourself from the situation. :)

  10. WEEEEEEEEE you're so cute! You look like a pretty little librarian or something. Or a teacher. You should totally be a teacher! Good plan I think. :) I am terrible when it comes to confrontation, I just cannot do it! I usually just let things slide if they piss me off. Unless something makes me REALLY FRIGGIN ANGRY, but even then I probably wouldn't say anything. Next time somebody pisses me off or does something shitty, I am going to give you a call so you can come over here and confront them for me. THANK YOU.

PS you're the coolest person in the world :)

    1. I'll take the librarian comment, thanks! ;) I don't think I'd be a good teacher. I'd be letting the kids go early every day and we'd chat about life lessons and experiences versus what is supposed to be taught in the text. haha
Definitely give me a ring! I'm there for ya, babe! ♥

P.s. NOOOO, YOU'RE the coolest person in the world. I'll take second place though. :)

I got my sleeves done in Vegas. But I know there are tons of great places in New York right near you! Just walk in and scope shops out; definitely their books! Asking around also helps. Ooorrr if you see a stranger in the streets with great work and they're a local, ask for their artist. :) I used to carry my artist's business cards with me because I got asked in the grocery store so much in Vegas.

  12. OH, how I ADORE this outfit! That top is a great find- at Marshall's??!!! While I like to talk about things and find resolutions, sometimes I just like to wait, either for a more appropriate time and place or to let off some steam\think about what I'm going to say. Sometimes just waiting allows me to come to a different perspective about something and then I'm glad I didn't confront the situation right away. Also, I hate to say it, but some things aren't worth my time anymore. Oh, and I'm DYING- no pun intended- to see Season Two of AHS! -Jessica L

    1. Yeah, girl! I never find anything this adorbs at Marshall's. It's far and few in between my visits.
Depending on the kind of elephant, I like to simmer down for a while too and collect my thoughts and how I'd word it when it does come time for confrontation/conversation. I've put my foot in my mouth before and felt horrible about coming out too strong. I agree about waiting a while. The times I've done that too, it turned out the elephant didn't even have anything to do with me! They were just having a bad day. And omg, yess! The older I get, I just don't care! With certain things of course. ;)
Did you love the season premiere of AHS last night?!!!

  15. OMG I am the exact same way. I absolutely have to get things off of my chest if it bothers me. I've been dealing with a situation with someone I work closely with. We disagree on a lot of things and I believe a lot of the disagreements are only done to annoy the crap out of me. Anyways, I don't want to get into that. Your outfit is cute. Elephants and houndstooth works quite well for you! Just out of curiosity, are you in a science program at school?

    1. My chest always feels like it's going to explode and I get real antsy if I don't get things out. It truly and utterly bothers me! Lol Oh, girl, I've been there with 'that' person at work. And I said my peace in the most professional way and it still didn't do anything. That person was always doing something to piss me and everyone else off. I swear she lived to gossip and make work a miserable place. My last week on the job I let her have it real good. Let's just say I was done being a lady and didn't give a damn who heard or what. She needed to hear that. And from what I heard after I left, nothing changed. I was hoping for a mega dose of reality but some people will be who they are forever, incapable of change or epiphanies. Anywhooo, haha, tangent. No, I just had a bio in that building that particular day. Science and me don't belong anywhere close to one another. Although I must say I'm wayyy better at it than I thought I was. Ask me anything about cell division, nucleotides and the purposes of DNA profiling. haha, but really. ;)
Thank you for the comment, Trice. You always make me smile.

  16. It's very true, communication is key whether it be bad or good. You have to be honest. That's one of the main reasons Javi and I have been together for over 9 years, you have to communicate. On another note, that pencil skirt is fire, so cute!

  18. Ha you're like me! I don't avoid it. I hit it head on because I want the problem solved and dealt with immediately. If me and Grant ever argue, he always wants to "be alone to think", but I want to finish everything right then and there. I don't want to delay anything :P By the way, I love the phrase "insane in the membrane". It makes me think of this movie Dickey Roberts I used to watch…Have you seen it? Cracks me up.

    1. Exactly! See, we're gonna be great real life friends...on that day we finally meet in real life. :)
And OMG, Mikey can never get away with that being alone to think stuff! hahah Not on my watch.
Insane in the membrane always reminds me of that Cypress Hill song, even though I hate it. When I was a kid, this older girl I knew always played it. I thought she was so cool. I've never seen the Dickey Roberts movie, but I've heard of it. I'll check good ol' Netflix to see if it's there. I love doing nothing but watching a ton of movies on the weekend.
I will be catching up on your blog this weekend, missy. I'm so behind! :/

  24. I think the elephants and houndstooth most definitely work! Super cute look as always :] That hairbow is also so sweet.

I am the complete opposite! First of all - I typically am the one making things awkward (I guess I am the awkward elephant in the room) and people always call me out on it. Aaaaand then I am terrified of stirring the pot. I need to work on my confrontation skills. Show me your ways, please!

    1. Thanks, Allison! I really loved mixmatching the prints. I just pulled them off hangers because I hadn't worn the shirt ever and I hadn't worn the skirt in FORever, so I was like, "hmm...this will have to work!" haha
Oh, I don't think you're the elephant in the room at all!! And I would personally never think an awkward person WAS the elephant in the first place. I was more so referring to things that make everyone else feel awkward, be it situations or other people's attitudes or the things unsaid that need to be addressed. Hell, if I thought awkward people were the elephants then I'd be one myself! haha As extroverted and vocal as I am, I'm still pretty damn awkward, ask Mikey. He tells me that about ten times a day. :)
I need to live near you so we can work on those blunt skills, hehe
