I ♥ the UK

Ever since I was a kid, I've had this incredible fascination for anything British (especially the accents). I think it started when I was about nine years old and my step dad introduced us kids to the BBC network, specifically on Sunday nights. It became a sort of tradition for so many years that we all gathered around the "telly" to watch "As Time Goes By", "Are You Being Served?", and my personal favorite, "Keeping Up Appearances" starring Patricia Routledge as the snooty yet charming (and hilarious!) Hyacinth Bucket - her last name is one of the many running jokes on the show as she insists it's pronounced Bouquet. It was recently taken off Netflix, but for the last year-ish I had rewatched all the episodes I remembered enjoying so much as a child. Pure nostalgia and absolute bliss while watching it. If you run across this show somewhere and haven't seen it, do get to it.
Don't mind the broken fence in our backyard - folks have not seen it when backing up.
Dress: ModCloth (old)// Tee: Metropark (even older)// Hat & sunnies: UO// Shoes: Irregular Choice

So this outfit was worn a couple months ago, during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee actually. I had gotten the shoes for the occasion and because, they're just cute really. My Mini Cooper completed this look ;) One day I will live in England! For now, it's cruising around like a bad ass in my Mini while listening to British pop music - The Smiths are/have been one of my favorite bands ever - and telling arseholes to get out of my bloody way.
Anywho, I've found myself lacking in outfit taking photos lately so, since this never made the blog, I figured this could do until I remember to start whipping out the camera on an almost daily basis again.
Welp, gotta go mimis now! It's way past my bedtime and I've got an early class. Happy hump day!

  2. WOW! I love those shoes! The tee is so darn cute and the heart sunnies just drive home the CUTE factor! You should wear hats more often; they suit you well, esp. this one!
Isn't if funny how it makes you feel when you watch something that you used to watch when you were a child? Some fuzzy and loved and safe! Just like being back home in your childhood home!
I actually watched Desperately Seeking Susan (all time fave) and boy! did it bring back some major fun memories of me and my best friends dressing up as Madonna! I wish I had those boots and that jacket now!
Do good in school! Have a great day!

    1. Thanks, Dana! I do love wearing hats, more specifically bowler hats! I think I look good in those. Gah, I sound like such a narcissist! But really.
Yesss, I love that feeling. It's like there's a good comforting feeling in that part of me will never change. I will always have love for the little things from childhood. Desperately Seeking Susan was a movie I watched many times!!! That and Who's That Girl, also with Madonna! haha We are so twins. :D

    1. I want to hear your take on the Brit accent!! hahaa I used to do it all the time at work when I was a teen. Some days I'd only speak in that accent and I'd actually food people into thinking I was from there. I bet I suck at it now, but I could take lessons from you! ;)

  5. New follower here and I just had to comment! Fellow Jersey girl here married to a Brit who also got to spend a year living in England. This post is just so awesome! It's so wonderful to see another gal after my own heart. If you're looking for those shows on television now, I usually catch them either on PBS, NJTV, or WLIW. Just a head's up! Awesome blog!

    1. My friend Jen is also here in Jersey and married to a Brit! haha What are the odds of that? So cool! You lucky, lucky girl! I want to live in England for at least a year, longer would be good too. Thanks for the heads up! I found the shows on PBS a month or so ago but I didn't know the schedule/airing time and haven't caught it on since. You are the best!

  7. Oh god, my mother LOVED that show! I was very young when she used to watch it though, so I don't remember it very well, but I do remember her fat in-laws and how she insisted on her last name being pronounced 'bouquet' haha. :P

I am totally with you on british accents though. I often youtube make up reviews and stuff by girls with british accents simply to hear them ramble on.. not because I'm interested in the product lol. Does that make me creepy?

Lovely outfit by the way! I really like that top. :)

    1. Haha Your mom sounds like an awesome lady! Bouquet is the best last name ever, but Bucket is just hilarious. And pretty bad ass, too. I love me some Hyacinth.
No way, dude! Not creepy at all. I'd so do the same thing if I thought of it! Accents are beautiful, but the British accent is the best and I could just listen to it all day. I love movies with British actors. I'm just in heaven listening to them. Don't even care what they look like, haha.
Thanks for the comment, Felicity! It made me smile and chuckle. :)

Girl, I will definitely do it on Friday! Not too swamped then with that 4.5 hour break! ;)

  10. Oh those cutle little shoes are adorable! But I am big big fan of the US rather than UK. I love the american accent better than the uk one and Roni think about the weather and the natural beauties of the US, nothing compares to them! I lived in DC an LA for quite sometime and I enjoyed my stay so much!
But I will check that show on youtube!

    1. Aww on behalf of the USA I appreciate your sweet words. ;) I love the USA. Don't get me wrong - proud US Vet right here, I just have always had a 'thing' for the UK. It just needs to be fulfilled by me living there for at least a year. Not saying I want to throw my US citizenship away or anything, haha. I love my country. I am just fascinated with theirs, too. Mainly because of the culture in the media that I've been drawn to since childhood.
Thank you for your comment, Francesca! xo

  11. Oh man I need those shoes in my life! I heart them big time. I'm also a huge fan of anything British and would love to have that pretty accent instead of my southern drawl (although I do enjoy saying y'all). One of my college friends lived in London for a little over a month and loved it but said it was wicked expensive. Maybe when I win the lottery we can all move :)

    1. I will never ever reject my usage of the word y'all! It will always be one of the many reminders that I'll always be a Texan first.
      Please win the lottery.

  12. Hahaha, I love throwing "bloody" in conversations sometimes. Makes me feel sophisticated ;)
The Smiths have seriously been one of my favorites since I was a kid. I remember so vividly watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off as a kid and in the museum scene when they play the instrumental version of "please let me get what I want" I would sing along. I thought it was so beautiful. Every song of theirs in all the 80s movies was my favorite. I used to sing all the words to "I AM THE SUN, I AM THE AIR" when I was a kid before I even knew who it was. Technically not the Smiths, but close enough ;)

    1. That's so true - "bloody" does make me feel sophisticated. So does saying "bollocks" :)
Ooh Ferris Bueller!! How I love that movie. That scene is one of my favorites, aside from the parade scene of course! I remember when I was a kid I thought that Matthew Broderick was actually singing hahahahaha What a dummy.
      Violet, you're the coolest.

  13. Being British it does make me happy when people like this little grouping of countries we have on our island. I haven't actually watched so much of the old tv, but if you want classic British tv of the moment you should watch Sherlock with Bendict Cumberbatch and Doctor Who. They are totally the best. Oh and if you like the old stuff I love the Goon show which is an old radio show with Spike Milligan in. Very witty stuff.

Get some tea and biscuits or some pints, I don't care. I want to meet you badly! We'd be the best gals ever together. Even "Queenie" (haha!) would think so :D
I used to jokingly answer my phone the same way! Hyacinth was like a role model, lol. I haven't heard of the shows you've mentioned but I'm very interested in seeing them. I love love love British comedies and will always open up my heart to fit more in. They're just that special to me. So, thanks for the recommendations!
