Hello, Texas

Howdy, y'all!
I'm at my sister's apartment right now borrowing wifi. I really don't have internet capabilities at all when I'm at my mom's so I wanted to take this opportunity to get in a post and read some blogs. I hope all is well with y'all!
Here are pictures from last Thursday when I flew into my home state.
How cute/perfect is this shirt to wear while traveling?!
shirt, bag: ModCloth//shoes: Endless
Saying "buh bye" to my hunnie bunnie at Newark airport.
1. Wine buzz on the plane 2. My nephew was so excited to see me
3. Sister & I eating tacos (YUM) 4. Enjoying a Mexican treat, chamoyada
Upon my arrival into San Antonio, my sissy, her fiance Gilbert, and my nephew Nathan took me to get some real Mexican food. (New Jersey fails so hard at it.)
I had been craving one of these finely shaven ice treats (in a variety of flavors) that Mexican people love dousing with chili powder and something called Chamoy. It's a brilliantly delicious concoction of sour, salty, spicy and sweet. It's an acquired taste for some, but I've been eating it since I was a child.
For dinner, I craved more Mexican food so Gilby hooked us up, even adding a sugary, refreshing pitcher of Kool-Aid. My first day in town consisted of a five hour food coma; it was magical.
I do wish Mikey could have come with me to Texas, as we always come together; however, he is currently enrolled in summer school. On the bright side, he'll be flying into Texas on the weekend of our nephew Nathaniel's first birthday party! That's pretty much why I'm here for three weeks - I wanted to spend plenty of time with Nathan leading up to his big milestone of a birthday, and of course, I wanted quality time with my four month old niece, Makaila. I try and take advantage of family time as much as I can, when I can.

Have a lovely week, y'all!

<3 Roni

**Up until a week ago there had been a little set back with one of the sites I'm purchasing from (for my giveaway), but it finally got squared away (I think) and I've already begun purchasing more pretty, whimsical items that are all going into the gift box that will be part of my giveaway. Official deets to follow when I get back from Texas. Didn't want y'all thinking I forgot about it.**

  1. Hahaha @ the photo of your nephew "so happy to see you". Your shirt is really cute, by the way. And I love the pink lips!

  3. Love the tee... so much fun! I thought I was the only one that did cheesy stuff like this; match the clothing to the occasion (even a flight). Your nephew's model-like pout is too much. I want to reach through the screen and pinch his cheeks. Happy to hear that you are getting fed well and enjoying (always important) family time! I have a few friends in Texas. Hope one day I get to visit them and experience this Chamoy stuff...sounds interesting.
You really hit the nail on the head. I was looking at the pics on my last post and just couldn't put my finger on it... they DO have a vintagey wartime pin-up girl vibe... The fam & I were on a "historical drive" since I wanted to take them on the famous Pasadena Bridge (it received a Civil Engineering Landmark designation and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places) although it has a "shady" past too! Just around the corner from the bridge I found this building (not quite sure what it is) and I decided to take some pics because I thought the walkway is beautiful.
I agree as far as F21! I guess I was in denial cuz some of their stuff is soo pretty! For now I decided I'll pretty much stick to their accessories.
Perhaps one day we'll both meet half way in Vegas. It's one of our favorite travel destinations! Aren't we a funny pair? You don't drink coffee and I don't drink alcohol! (personal choice really; I've seen too many of my friends make fools of themselves while inebriated and just decided on the spot that won't ever happen to me! and that's that!) My friends actually LOVE that now cuz they have a permanent designated driver and I have loads of ammo for possible bribery later! haha Maybe we should just have dessert?!?!?
Enjoy your visit my lovely friend!

    1. Oh, I love matching my clothes to certain occasions! This shirt is perfection and I'm so glad I got it before it sold out for good.
Nathan has the best pinchable cheeks ever!!
The food is still coming and I swear I'm going to leave here, at the very least, ten pounds heavier.
You're in Cali so there should definitely be Mexican candies near you! I've been there and never had a problem getting them, especially cause there's lots of my people in the area. ;)
I hope we get to meet and instead of coffee and drinks, perhaps we should just stick with dessert!! That's something we both agree on....like a thousand percent for me! haha
Thank you for your lovely comment, Dana!

  5. I havent had real Mexican food in about 6 years. I am so jealous that you are getting to chow down on yummy food and I'm stuck with store bought tortillas and beans from a can. My life sucks.

PS we are thinking barbeque party at our place in mid July. You and Mikey down? :)

  6. So much spicyness! The sound of spicy shaven ice is definitely unknown to me! But one thing I'll definitely have to try. Love your shirt too, reminds me of Threadless.com!

You should definitely try the spicy stuff if you're in Texas or California...or any other southern-ish state. If there's a big Mexican population, you should be able to find the candies I've mentioned.

  7. Gosh I wish I could come close to being as cute as you are! And I'm right there with you. I have been CRAVING like none other snow cones and shaved ice….pretty much ice in general. Maybe not with chili powder :P But I would still be up for trying it. I grew up eating boiled peanuts with my family and everyone thinks I'm completely nuts for liking them. It is an acquired taste, but there is nothing to compare. My favorite snack!!!

    1. Oh, stop it! :) (Thank you)
Boiled peanuts are so yummy!! I think you should try adding some lucas or chamoy to your next snow cone! Just put a little on it. I really need to send all my curious blog friends some!

  11. That top is the perfect traveling shirt, tehehe. I want Mexican food sooo badly now - yum! Chamoyada sounds interesting. I would like to try it out, but I am a whimp when it comes to spicy things. Enjoy hanging out with your fam :] That is awesome that you are able to spend that much time with them. I can't wait for your giveaway! I am sure it will be beyond spectacular.

Oh, also - I did get your email!! (sorry for the delay, my internet has been on and off all day at my moms - it is so frustrating). But oh my goodness Roni. You are just too sweet and kind!! I do wear a small to medium, so I think it would work....but are you sure?! I would love to return the favor and do some design work for you or something :] Thank you.

    1. Yay! A fellow chamoy lover!!! I am such a salt fiend. My family was having dinner the other day and I noticed how everyone was adding SO much salt to their meals. I could only laugh and say, "What's wrong with us Mexicans? Is nothing salty enough for us to eat?!" LOL
Thank you, my nephew is my world!
