Open Emotions dress

I've had this pretty number for well over a year but have never really worn it, mainly because the cutout is so revealing (for my taste). But we were going to a club to celebrate my friend Lissi's birthday last weekend and I basically said "F it, I'll be ballsy." What I wear to clubs is what I wear to school and the grocery store and date nights and work...you get the picture. I have no club clothes. So, I figured this little cleavage showing (pun intended) dress might be the closest thing to 'club gear' I'd ever worn.
closeup of the cutouts and floral design
Dress: ModCloth (old)//Heels: BCBGeneration (thanks sissy!)

Initially, I spent the majority of the pregaming session at Lissi's house with a pillow covering my chest. I guess because we were in a well lit room and I wasn't ready to be so exposed. But I soon got comfy with a couple Ciroc and pinapple drinks at Ultra Bar. Still, it's an awfully darling dress and I'm going to find the guts to wear it more. Plus, Mikey really, really loved it.
A few photos from the night...
I have more pics, but I really need to start getting ready for work! I bartend till 3 a.m. for another Collective night tonight. Be back Monday!

Love,
Roni

  1. That dress is cute! Not my type with the flowers, but the cutout yes. There is one thing I've learned from my (much) older mom & her friends- "if you've got it, flaunt it!" and trust me honey, you definitely have it. I'm sure Mikey will be much more appreciative, too (although I have a feeling he'd like you no matter what you wear). I love those heels, too! I was wanting a pair to wear with jeans, a flouncy white top and a black purse. Too cute!

    1. I knew you'd love the cutout ;) I think you should rock something like this!
And haha, thank you SO much, Jen. That honestly made me smile and feel really good, even though I don't think I have much to "flaunt". Mikey really enjoyed seeing "the girls" that night, but knows I felt really awkward because I don't have much of "girls" in the first place. At least he was happy though, I suppose. :) But yeah, he loves the way I dress in general, even all the way covered up.
Oh, I totally thought of you when I wore these heels, too! I know you wanted some like this. Don't worry, I'll help you out...eventually! lol When I'm not feeling lazy.

    2. lol yeah, yeah. hahaha j/k

And, no way Jose. I don't do floral prints like that. I wear a regular t-shirt and it looks like I'm going to a wet t-shirt contest. Ugh.

  3. I just LOVE that dress! I'm exactly the same though.. I purchase daring outfits and then put off wearing them for ages because I think they're too revealing. I should follow your lead and learn to live a little bit. :P

    1. Exactly! I want to be more daring but there are plenty of skirts or dresses in my closet that I still haven't worn and I've had them for almost 2 years! I just don't have the guts to wear this one skirt that is extremely skin tight! Maybe I'll bust it out sometime this year. ;P

    1. I do, too! I thought it was such a fun concept since florals are such a classic and wholesome print. The cutouts just make it playful and grown up :) THank you for your comment, Sam!

    1. Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one that has one specific style/comfort zone that they show everywhere. I always tell myself to go out and buy some "club wear" for those times that we go out and I just can't do it. It so doesn't feel like me.
Thanks so much for your lovely words, Marisa!

    1. I love these shoes sissy, but when Bowie chewed up one of the heels I thought about not wearing them ever! Then I was like, "hell to the nah, I ain't fixin to let that dog ruin my fashion skills" hahaha No but really, I love them. Thanks again for not wanting them. :P
I honestly can't believe you didn't wear them because they were so expensive. If anything, that's what makes me wear most of my shoes often! I feel guilty if I just leave them on the shelf knowing I paid so much dough!
P.s. I freakin' LOL'd hard at your last sentence!!!! OMG, you are such a nerd, sister.

  9. Oh wow, I seriously loooove that dress. So different and really flattering on you.
I don't really wear traditional "club" wear either, so this is definitely the type of dress I'd wanna try too when I'm feeling bold.

And thanks so much for your sweet comments. Love your blog!

  12. That dress is so pretty on you! That is the classiest "clubbing dress" I have ever seen, haha. Life is too short. I am the same way though when I end up with pieces I don't feel comfortable with.

    1. Haha, I thought it was the classiest version of a clubbing dress I'd ever seen, too :) I'm okay with not buying any club gear and just 'clubifying' my own girly wardrobe. You're right, life IS short. I'm definitely going to try and live a little when it comes to my comfort zone, especially where wardrobe is considered.
      Thanks, Allison ♥

  18. whoa, I can see why Mikey is a fan of this dress. hehe. Actually I dont think its very revealing at all espeically when you compare it to some of the sluttlymcgrossness that some of those girls wear. I mean do they not have any parents?!

    1. That's totally true. This was definitely a step up from most of the sluttymcgees there.
And I always think the same thing - like, didn't their mom or dad see them before they left the house??
