"Grief is love's unwillingness to let go"
Recently Mikey and I were strongly encouraged, almost forced, by his brother to watch a documentary called "Dear Zachary: A letter to a son about his father" (the title of this post was said at one point in the doc); we watched the film tonight and my eyes are still incredibly red and puffy from having cried as much through this movie as I did when I saw "The Notebook" - ladies, you know what I'm talking about. It's not an ordinary love story; it's about the love in friendships and how a man's friends remembered him after he was gone. It's a crime story. It's tragic in so many ways and the two parents in the doc are, like a reviewer on Netflix said, "angels masquerading as people". This film was unbelievable and truly moving. And it's TRUE, hence documentary. I recommend you all watch it (it's currently streaming & avail. on DVD on Netflix). It'll break your heart, piss you off, and inspire you. Be sure to have a box of Kleenex closeby. Mikey and I were a couple of emo babies when the credits rolled.
I took away a few things from this, but one of the biggest was the testament of friendship, and the way this guy, and every one else that spoke, loved their friend...to tell about him after he's gone. I could see myself doing something like that in honor of my best friends. And like most people, I only wish to be a happy memory to all my family and friends after I'm gone one day. All the moments that we share with people we love is so precious, and that alone made me cry so much tonight. I could ramble about this for a while, just watch it. But don't say I didn't warn you on its extremely heartbreaking content.
With love and sending BIG hugs,
Roni
Oh, it came out in 2008, so there's a good chance some of you might have seen or heard about it. I can't believe I didn't hear about it until now.
Ditto. I hope people remember me as caring & loving.
ReplyDeleteI love you. But, since I'm older & was more wild, I'll probably go first. =P
-j.
Oh Jen, don't even joke like that! ;P
DeleteI Love you more.
Hey man, if you can't joke about it, what's gonna happen when it does happen?
DeleteIt'll all be ok. =)
♥
I'll def be checking that out..thx for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNo prob girl! Let me know when you've seen it.
DeleteThe idea behind it seems familiar to me, I can't remember seeing this film but maybe I have? I will definitely check it out though, I am not one to cry at films (the notebook didn't even have me,) but I still sometimes feel sad or inspired by them! xo
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Sarah! You are definitely stronger at holding back your tears than I am. Then again, I'm a really big cry baby with sad movies and songs; I cry pretty easily when I'm touched by something. :)
DeleteYeah, I have to agree with Sarah. At the end of the Notebook, I got a little misty eyed, that's it. The only movie to have me bawling is "What Dreams May Come". If you've seen it, I'll tell you why. If not, see it, & then I'll tell you why.
DeleteI don't think I've seen that movie, Jen. I'll definitely keep an eye out for it on Netflix! And y'all are crazy if you didn't cry like a little bia during The Notebook. That's like...IMPOSSIBLE.
DeleteOh and ps, thank you for the blog award :) xo
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome. ♥
DeleteI watched this awhile ago and cried my eyes out. Its so sad. That lady was so crazy.
ReplyDeleteOMG she was a psychopath! When she'd come on screen talking like a loving mother or an innocent woman I'd start flipping out from my couch. I can't believe that she was ever let off the hook in the first place. "Blame Canada" haha, South Park.
DeleteOh boy, I will have to check this out some time soon.
ReplyDeletePrepare your mind to be blown. :)
Deletewelllll you got me to watch this movie and let me tell you.... I started it on Wednesday and finished it Saturday morning! The (worst part) moment they said what she did to Zachary I started bawling and had to turn it off and jump in the shower - it was just too much. Gilbert came back home and as I was telling him what happened I started to cry all over again! That lady was the worse human being ever. It had me yelling at the the tv in anger too! ugghhh! it is definitely a must see but should have a warning of all the emotions you will go through while watching it!
ReplyDeleteOmg, yeah that crazy nut was hard to listen to. It was really a heartbreaking documentary. But I'm glad that story was told, and those parents are seriously tough as rocks, but sooo sweet and caring angels! For all they've been through and they had the courage to go forth and get the word out, just to save this from happening to anyone else is just mind blowing. You'd think this would have knocked them down and torn them apart, but nope, amidst the pain and the struggle and no doubt the stress, they fought and are wonderful advocates now. It's just so inspiring on their part. Everything else should have just never happened in the first place. Unfortunately, sick people like her will always exist.
