the little things ♥

Dahlia dress: ModCloth// Cardi: Express// Tights, flats: Target// Dia de los Muertos bag: Cash 4 Chaos (Vegas)
So, even though I've been bedridden and miserable the last few days (the flu finally caught me) and I'm sniffling and blowing snot into a tissue while I type this, I still felt it doable to make a list of all the little things I've been grateful for this last week:
~Having good curly hair days like the one shown above. I mean, c'mon, look at those bouncy spirals - they're fabulous. And they're all natural.
~Staying in bed for about 15 hours on a rainy day. It was magical.
~Pumpkin raviolis. Seriously, I'm not making this up. They were to die for!
~Rediscovering this 6 year old Mexican satchel and using it everyday, even when it doesn't match.
~Even though having as many visitors as we get throughout the year can be tiresome (we haven't had our home to ourselves since February), it makes me feel really lucky - lucky to have far away friends that haven't forgotten us. We had two friends visit us the last two weeks and have another coming in this weekend.
~Having a margarita with Mikey at a Mexican restaurant that only plays doo-wop AND country classics. Amber, I'm pretty sure this is our heaven.
~Winning a giveaway of something I happened to have on my ModCloth lovelist!! Did I mention I never win..anything?
~Getting to take home a turkey-sized dish crammed with strawberry cake, rice krispy treats, and Cookie Monster cupcakes from our friends' kid's first birthday party.
~Watching a shi-ton of horror movies. Well, more than normal. I recently saw the Thai version of the movie Shutter - it was amaaazzinngly creepy. You can see it on Netflix if you wanna.
~Loving that my Halloween/horror tattoo sleeve is relevant this month. Unfortunately it's getting too cold to show it off with short sleeves.

Any costume ideas yet? Halloween's almost here!! I've got three ideas for costumes myself and all the pieces are already in my closet so I won't have to spend much money - woo hoo!
Have a wonderful Thursday, friends. <3

  1. Please take me to that Mexican restaurant! That sounds magical! I think Thanksgiving break might work for us. Maybe that Saturday? Would you want to sleep over? I need to fix up our guest room like yesterday. We have a daybed in our office but the mattress is as hard as a rock. Its not a pleasant experience. I am so glad we are planning this! I just have to check with Kevin and make sure he doesnt have any plans for the weekend (I dont think he does). :) :) :)

    1. I will, I will! When you come here for a visit. :) It's not a restaurant/lounge like most places in Jersey, but with two margaritas in us, I can see us turning that place into a sock hop/country dance hall.
I really hope we square away these plans and seal them up!

    1. Thanks, Rachel. I'm slowly getting there. I want to be released by the might grip of the asshole Flu gods!

  5. Sorry you've been sick...this season doesn't help much either. Your so lucky to have such awesome friends! I haven't had anyone come visit in like two years :( Hopefully they will get their butts out here! I'm totally jealous of you natural curls...too cute! My hair does this in-between thing, which is soooo annoying. So I take the curling iron to it :)

Get better soon! Miso soup and hot tea will cure anything! My mom use to give my ground ginger in water....it was gross, but totally worked!

    1. Yeah, I usually get pretty messy when the seasons change. My sinuses go berserk and I become the poor victim of flash fevers. It sucks but I'll take this over the annual strep throat I used to get any day! Strep suuuuucks.
Aww, I do feel so lucky for these friends of mine. We met in the military and our bond is so ridiculously strong. I'm so happy to see that distance hasn't affected us. Hopefully I can visit you one of these days! Now that would be fun :)))
Never heard of that ground ginger concoction but I just stuck with what we had here: Theraflu. It's actually pretty good stuff.

    1. Thank you SO much, Lyn! And it's always a pleasure to hear from you.
Dressing up does in fact help me feel better most days when I'm not feeling my absolute best, but here lately it hasn't helped. Damn this flu bug! :) But it feels like it's getting ready to pass and I feel pretty guilty thinking of the next poor soul who'll have to feel crappy for a while, but it's nothing sleep and hot medicinal beverages can't fix.
I hope all is well in your world. ♥

    1. It was pretty freakin' amazing. I've done it quite often lately. I just have no energy for much else! Oh, well, I always joke that in my other life I was probably a bear - hibernation.
I am on my way to feeling 100%. Thanks, friend xo

  9. You know I'm going to tell you how much I love your dress?! (I'm currently obsessed with Peter Pan collars.) Exactly how I would style it: with a cardigan! And you have naturally curly hair? Mine is too, but not like that! It's crazy dry, thick, and frizzy! Don't get my started on it, which is why I get lazy and like to wear it up most of the time. And pumpkin raviolis are my favorite! I found them in Lean Cuisines, so now I buy them for lunch at least 2 times a week! I'm sorry you've been bedridden, which reminds me that I need to get my butt over to medical and get the flu shot. I'm thinking of a horror movie sleepover marathon with friends because I can't watch scary movies alone. Did you see my reply to your comment about Season Two AHS? And "what's your favorite scary movie"???! -Jessica L

    1. Peter pan collars are the cutest detail!
Girl, my hair is thick, dry, and ultra frizzy!! So we're the same. I just use hair serums to try and tame it. Having curly hair means experimenting with an array of products over time, trying to find out which is best for your curls ('health' wise) and which emphasizes their natural state the most. After all the gels, mousses, spritzers, and creams I've toyed with throughout the years, I think I finally found the brand that works best for me: Samy (I think that's how it's spelled), and they're really inexpensive! My citrus smelling curl creme is only $5 and laaasts! There is also a really great curl lotion for the a buck more at most. I totally recommend them.
ANYWAY! haha I didn't realize I had so much to say about hair. I had never tried pumpkin ravis till this restaurant last weekend. I outta try them in the Lean Cuisines, too!!
Your line about going to medical to get the flu shot took me straight back to my Air Force days, awwww :))) I need to get that damn shot, too. It's just easy to forget about it when it's not mandatory and being briefed about at roll call.
I'll check your comment, I don't think I saw it. Hmmm..my favorite scary movies are a tie between The Shining, Lost Boys, the original Nightmare on Elm Street! Scary shit!

  10. I was bedridden this week too with some sort of awful head cold - yuuuuuck. I am hope you are feeling better though! I am nearly breathing properly again myself, haha.

Great list of things to be grateful for. I was just about to comment on how killer your curly hair is!! It is perfect. I am super jealous. I also fell in love with that satchel as soon as I saw it on IG. I love anything Dia de los Muertos related. Congrats on your ModCloth win ya lucky duck!!! ;] That Mexican restaurant sounds so fun.

I am still not 100% sure what I am going to do for Halloween yet. I need to go to the store for accessories still and see what happens. I am pretty excited though :]

    1. Hey! We're such great friends, we even get sick at the same time. ;)
I'm getting there (to feeling better), it just seems like when I woke up today I was all healed and then I got that icky sinus/drowsy feeling so I took a looong nap when I got home from school. Bah.
Well, it wasn't a ModCloth win per say. I mean it wasn't one of their giveaways, but still! I'm suuuper happy it was something I wanted from them that happened to be given away on another blog. I'll be posting about it soon! :D Thanks, though, lucky duck :)
P.s. Now that I've seen what you've got going on costume wise on IG, I am SO impressed with your choices! You are the biznat, girlfran!

  12. Such a great list! I love seeing your perfect curls, so I can understand why you appreciate them! I am still not sure on the Halloween thing yet... everyone keeps asking if I am going to be a Smurf. I have stopped using the "no, Smurfs don't have blue hair" excuse as it usually leads to looks of "geez, what's her problem"! haha I have been pushing the idea of Coraline around since one of my darling instagram mentioned the look similarities though! haha

I am UBER happy you are planning to be Coraline! You are her better human half! haha As far as the Smurfs, how funny! For some reason I thought they had blue hair till you mentioned that and I googled - DUH! It's just their bodies! LOLOLOL I really felt like a moron after that, but I suppose it's a pretty common mistake. Don't worry, I knew you weren't being a snob correcting those folks. You're the sweetest thing ever.

    1. Hahah! I love this comment! I thought your curls were natural, too? Don't tell me their curled with an iron! Not that that's a bad thing, I just really thought yours were natural. They look it anyway. And why had everyone already heard of pumpkin ravis but me? Lol, I guess I've been pretty sheltered in terms of festive fall foods. :)
      Thank you, Corrine! xo
